What we do

Three things, done properly

Hard-wearing surfaces, floor coatings and landscaping for homes and businesses across Geelong, the Bellarine & Surf Coast. They look like different trades, but they share one obsession — the prep and the base underneath, which is what decides whether a finish lasts.

How it's built

A seamless surface, built up in layers

Resin-bound stone isn't a loose scatter-coat and it isn't a sealant painted over gravel. It's a trowelled wear course of rounded aggregate bound flush in UV-stable resin, laid over a properly prepared base — and on a permeable build-up, rain drains straight down through the layers rather than pooling on top.

Cross-section of a resin-bound surface: an 18–24 mm resin-bound wear course of rounded 2–5 mm stone over an open-graded permeable base over a compacted sub-base or existing slab, with rainfall draining down through the layers to an approved discharge point.
01

Wear course

Rounded ~2–5 mm aggregate bound flush in two-part aliphatic resin and hand-trowelled to a smooth, seamless finish — ~18 mm minimum under vehicles, ~15 mm for foot traffic.

02

Open-graded base

On a permeable build-up, an open-graded base lets water pass through and hold briefly before it discharges — the layer that makes the system WSUD-capable, subject to site and council.

03

Sub-base or existing slab

A compacted sub-base, or a sound existing concrete slab, carries the load. We check the base and falls on site before quoting — the spec follows the ground, not the other way around.

04

Drainage path

Where a permeable build-up is approved, rainfall drains down through the surface to an approved discharge point — far less surface run-off than sealed concrete or asphalt.

Why Terralume

Engineered for the Geelong climate

We don't cut corners and we don't oversell. Every project is installed to spec by trained crews, with materials chosen for Geelong's temperate maritime climate — cool wet winters and warm, dry summers, with the occasional frost.

  • UV-stable, two-part aliphatic resin that resists yellowing and breakdown under the sun (aromatic resins yellow and aren't used outdoors).
  • Permeable when laid over a permeable base — rain drains through to the base rather than pooling, subject to site & council.
  • Trained crews — no subbed-out labour, no guesswork on mix ratios or depth.
  • Written guarantee on workmanship and materials, in plain language.

What ties it together

It's all about what's underneath

Resin-bound stone, an epoxy floor and a new lawn look like three different trades — but they fail for the same reason: a base that wasn't prepared properly. So that's where we put the work. The right prep, the right base, every time, by crews who know what "sound" actually looks like before the finish goes down.

We do it ourselves — no subbies chasing the next job, no learning on your driveway, and no overselling what your site can't deliver. If we can't do it well, we'll tell you. That's the deal.

How it compares

Why homeowners choose resin-bound

An honest comparison against the common alternatives. No surface wins on everything — but resin-bound stone is the one that's seamless, permeable-capable and free of loose stone, all at once.

Comparison matrix of resin-bound stone versus resin-bonded, concrete, loose gravel and pavers across permeability (over a permeable base), seamless joint-free finish, weed resistance, no loose stone, low maintenance and UV-stable colour.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

A few of the things homeowners and landscape architects ask us most.

Is resin-bound stone really permeable?

Permeability is a property of the whole system, not the resin alone. A correctly installed resin-bound surface is permeable when it's laid over a permeable, open-graded base and sub-base — rainwater drains through to the base rather than pooling. (Resin-bonded surfaces, by contrast, are impermeable.) That generally makes a resin-bound build-up WSUD-friendly (Water Sensitive Urban Design, per Melbourne Water / Victorian guidance) for permeable-paving purposes, though approval is always subject to site conditions and the Greater Geelong City Council.

Will it fade or yellow in the sun?

We specify a two-part aliphatic (UV/colour-stable) polyurethane resin chosen for sun exposure. It resists the yellowing and breakdown you get with cheaper aromatic resins — which yellow and aren't used on exterior work — which is why we're comfortable putting our guarantee in writing. (Resin chemistry is indicative; we verify the exact system against its product TDS/SDS.)

How long does an installation take?

Most residential projects are completed in one to two days once the base is ready. At around 20 °C the surface is typically ready for foot traffic in about 6–8 hours and light vehicles in about 24–72 hours; full chemical cure takes around 7 days (being open to traffic is not the same as full cure). Cure times lengthen in cold or winter installs. The times we quote are a conservative buffer above the resin manufacturer's TDS minimums.

Can you lay it over my existing concrete?

Often, yes. A sound, well-drained existing concrete slab can make an excellent base for a resin-bound wear course — but it must be structurally sound, clean and free of major cracking, and a slab is impermeable, so the finished surface won't be permeable on that build-up. If you want the permeable, WSUD-friendly version, we'd typically design a new open-graded base. We assess the existing surface on site and tell you honestly what it can take before we quote.

How much maintenance does it need?

Far less than loose gravel or block paving. There are no joints to weed and no loose stone to rake back into place. In practice it's an occasional sweep or hose-down, the odd power-wash on a low setting, and keeping leaf litter off so organic matter doesn't stain. There's no annual resealing required for the surface to function — we'll talk you through simple care at handover.

What does a resin-bound surface cost?

Honestly, it depends on the site — and we won't pretend otherwise. Price is driven by area, the condition and falls of the existing base, whether you need a new permeable build-up, access, edging and the aggregate blend you choose. That's exactly why we quote on site rather than over the phone: you get one fixed, itemised written number for your actual project, not a per-square-metre guess. The free site assessment is genuinely no-obligation.

Do you service my area?
