Light & aspect
A blend reads warmer and brighter in full sun, and cooler and deeper in shade. North-facing driveways and shaded courtyards can look like different colours — so we always check the spot where the surface will actually sit.
Six natural aggregate blends, each a mix of naturally rounded ~2–5 mm stone bound flush in clear, UV-stable resin. From deep charcoal near-black to warm honey and earthy russet, there's a tone to suit every home, garden and frontage. Servicing Geelong, the Bellarine & the Surf Coast.
The blend images on this page are indicative renders to show colour and character — not photos of completed Terralume jobs. We bring real stone samples to your free, no-obligation quote so you can see the actual aggregate in your own light.
Every Terralume surface is built from the same proven system — naturally rounded, kiln-dried aggregate at roughly 7% resin by weight, in a two-part aliphatic polyurethane chosen to stay UV- and colour-stable outdoors. What changes from job to job is the stone: its colour, the mix and the mood it sets. Below are the six blends we install most often, each shown close-up so you can read the individual stones the way you would on a real sample board.
Resin-bound stone gets its colour from genuine natural aggregate, not paint, stain or coloured topping. That's why it ages gracefully: there's no surface coat to flake, fade unevenly or wear back to a different shade. Choose the right stone for the spot and it reads true for years.
Whichever blend you choose, the build-up and specification stay the same. The figures below are typical for our work and confirmed in writing on your quote.
Names describe the dominant tone, not a single colour — natural stone always carries variation, and that variation is what gives a resin-bound surface its depth. Use the "best suited to" line as a starting point, then confirm with a real sample.
A bold, contemporary near-black with quiet depth — the flecks stop it reading flat. Hides marks well and frames lighter render, brick and landscaping.
Best suited toModern dark-toned homes, contemporary architecture and crisp, minimalist frontages. Note: dark surfaces absorb heat, so we usually steer lighter blends for barefoot pool surrounds.
A gentle, sunlit tone that feels classic and inviting. Pairs naturally with sandstone, render and heritage brick, and stays cooler underfoot than dark stone.
Best suited toWarm, traditional and period homes, garden patios and courtyards where you want a soft, welcoming light finish.
A warmer, more characterful cousin of sandstone — deeper gold tones with subtle movement. Reads beautifully in afternoon sun on a driveway or path.
Best suited toDriveways and frontages that want warmth and presence, brick and rendered homes, and landscaped gardens with sandstone or timber.
A clean, neutral grey that suits modern and coastal palettes alike. Lighter than charcoal, so it stays cooler underfoot — a strong choice around water.
Best suited toContemporary and coastal homes, pool surrounds and entertaining areas where you want a cool, even, glare-free finish.
The warmest blend in the range — earthy reds and ambers that bring a natural, organic feel. A standout against green planting and timber.
Best suited toGarden paths, courtyards and rustic or country-style homes, and anywhere you want warm, earthy character that ties into the landscape.
A versatile, well-balanced neutral that sits comfortably with almost any home. Warm and cool tones together mean it rarely clashes — our safe, flexible default.
Best suited toAlmost anything — driveways, patios, paths and pool surrounds — and homes where you want a forgiving, timeless blend that suits future changes too.
Indicative renders — actual stone samples are provided at your free quote. Colour names describe the dominant tone, not an exact match.
There's no single "right" answer — but a few simple pairings get most homeowners close before we even bring the samples out. Match the temperature of the stone to the materials you already have, then let the light and the use guide the final call.
Grey render, charcoal cladding, black window frames, rendered or modern-brick frontages and coastal palettes sit beautifully with cooler stone.
Heritage and red brick, sandstone, timber, rendered period homes and garden-led frontages come alive against warmer stone.
A screen can only get you so far. Stone is a natural material, and the way a blend looks depends on the light, the surrounding finishes and the size of the area. Here's how we help you choose with confidence — and why we'd never ask you to commit from a photo alone.
6 blends, brought to you
When we come out for your free site assessment, we bring physical sample boards of the blends you're considering — so you can hold the stone, lay it against your brick, render or paving, and see it in your own light before you decide.
A blend reads warmer and brighter in full sun, and cooler and deeper in shade. North-facing driveways and shaded courtyards can look like different colours — so we always check the spot where the surface will actually sit.
The best blend works with your brick, render, roof and joinery — not against them. Cool greys suit modern and coastal palettes; warm honeys and ambers flatter brick and heritage homes; neutrals go almost anywhere.
Dark blends look striking but absorb more heat — fine for a driveway, less ideal for a barefoot pool surround, where lighter blends stay cooler. Busy areas also hide marks better in mid-tone and darker mixes.
These are two indicative renders of resin-bound driveways on modern homes — one in warm low evening light, one in bright midday sun. They're a useful illustration of how much the light changes the read of a blend. It's exactly why we bring the real stone to you rather than asking you to choose from a screen.
Both images are indicative AI-assisted renders to illustrate lighting, not photographs of completed Terralume projects. Actual stone samples are provided at your free quote.
The right blend isn't the one that looks best on a screen — it's the one that still looks right at your front door, in your light.
A short showcase of the resin-bound aggregate up close — naturally rounded ~2–5 mm stone, bound flush in clear UV-stable resin for a seamless, permeable finish.
The questions homeowners ask us most when they're narrowing down a blend.
It'll be close in character, but natural stone always carries batch-to-batch variation, and the photos here are indicative renders rather than photos of a finished job. That's the honest reason we bring physical samples to your quote — so what you approve is the actual aggregate, seen in your own light.
Light. Time of day, sun versus shade, wet versus dry, and the finishes around it all change how a stone reads. A blend that looks warm in midday sun can look noticeably cooler and deeper in a shaded courtyard. We always assess the actual spot before you commit.
We specify a two-part aliphatic polyurethane resin, chosen because it's UV- and colour-stable — unlike cheaper aromatic resins, which yellow outdoors. The stone itself is naturally coloured aggregate, not a paint or dye, so the colour comes from the rock. With normal care, a quality resin-bound surface holds its look well; we cover this in your handover guidance.
Often, yes — many projects use one blend for a clean, continuous look, but borders, transitions and bespoke mixes are possible depending on aggregate availability. Tell us what you're picturing at your quote and we'll talk through what's realistic, and confirm against what we can actually source.
Mid-tone and darker mixes — like Charcoal Granite, Autumn and Mixed Natural — tend to disguise everyday marks more forgivingly than very light blends. That said, all resin-bound surfaces are low-maintenance and easy to sweep and hose; we'll factor in how the area is used when we recommend a blend.
Lighter stone reflects more heat, so blends like Silver Grey, Sandstone and Mixed Natural stay more comfortable underfoot in summer sun than a dark near-black such as Charcoal Granite. For pool surrounds and barefoot entertaining areas we generally steer towards the lighter end of the range, and we'll talk through the trade-offs against the look you're after.
Pricing is driven far more by the area, the preparation and the base than by which blend you pick. Some aggregates do carry a small supply difference depending on what's available, but for most jobs the blend you love and the blend that's most economical are close enough that we'd never push you off the look you want. Your written quote sets out the price clearly, with the blend and depth confirmed.
We're a new specialist business, and we'd rather show you real, verified homeowner reviews than invent them. As we complete our first blends across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast, we'll publish genuine feedback here — names, locations and all.
No paid placements, no stock photos and no made-up quotes. Until then, the honest measure of our work is the gallery and our written, plain-language guarantee — both of which we stand behind on every blend we lay.
Tell us the look you're after and we'll bring physical samples of the blends you're weighing up to a free site assessment — then put the spec, depth, blend and a fixed price in writing, backed by our 5-year workmanship guarantee.
