The palette

One material, a natural range of tones

Every Terralume surface is built from the same proven system — naturally rounded, kiln-dried aggregate at roughly 7% resin by weight, in a two-part aliphatic polyurethane chosen to stay UV- and colour-stable outdoors. What changes from job to job is the stone: its colour, the mix and the mood it sets. Below are the six blends we install most often, each shown close-up so you can read the individual stones the way you would on a real sample board.

The colour comes from the rock — not a dye

Resin-bound stone gets its colour from genuine natural aggregate, not paint, stain or coloured topping. That's why it ages gracefully: there's no surface coat to flake, fade unevenly or wear back to a different shade. Choose the right stone for the spot and it reads true for years.

  • Natural aggregate — colour from the stone itself.
  • Seamless, flush trowelled surface — no joints, no loose stone.
  • The same blend works across driveway, path, patio and pool surround.

Our core resin-bound blends

Names describe the dominant tone, not a single colour — natural stone always carries variation, and that variation is what gives a resin-bound surface its depth. Use the "best suited to" line as a starting point, then confirm with a real sample.

Dark Close-up of Charcoal Granite resin-bound aggregate — naturally rounded black and slate-grey stone packed flush, with occasional warm-tan and speckled flecks.
Charcoal Granite Deep charcoal & slate black, flecked with the odd warm tan stone

A bold, contemporary near-black with quiet depth — the flecks stop it reading flat. Hides marks well and frames lighter render, brick and landscaping.

Best suited toModern dark-toned homes, contemporary architecture and crisp, minimalist frontages. Note: dark surfaces absorb heat, so we usually steer lighter blends for barefoot pool surrounds.

Warm light Close-up of Sandstone resin-bound aggregate — warm honey, cream and buff rounded stone in a soft, even, light tone.
Sandstone Warm honey, cream & buff — soft, light and traditional

A gentle, sunlit tone that feels classic and inviting. Pairs naturally with sandstone, render and heritage brick, and stays cooler underfoot than dark stone.

Best suited toWarm, traditional and period homes, garden patios and courtyards where you want a soft, welcoming light finish.

Warm gold Close-up of Golden Quartz resin-bound aggregate — warm amber, gold and tan rounded stone with occasional grey-green and cream flecks.
Golden Quartz Rich amber & gold with tan and cream variation

A warmer, more characterful cousin of sandstone — deeper gold tones with subtle movement. Reads beautifully in afternoon sun on a driveway or path.

Best suited toDriveways and frontages that want warmth and presence, brick and rendered homes, and landscaped gardens with sandstone or timber.

Cool light Close-up of Silver Grey resin-bound aggregate — cool grey and white rounded stone with charcoal and the occasional warm-tan fleck.
Silver Grey Cool grey & white with charcoal accents

A clean, neutral grey that suits modern and coastal palettes alike. Lighter than charcoal, so it stays cooler underfoot — a strong choice around water.

Best suited toContemporary and coastal homes, pool surrounds and entertaining areas where you want a cool, even, glare-free finish.

Warm earthy Close-up of Autumn resin-bound aggregate — warm russet, terracotta, tan and rust-red rounded stone with cream highlights, an earthy autumnal mix.
Autumn Russet, terracotta & rust with cream highlights

The warmest blend in the range — earthy reds and ambers that bring a natural, organic feel. A standout against green planting and timber.

Best suited toGarden paths, courtyards and rustic or country-style homes, and anywhere you want warm, earthy character that ties into the landscape.

Neutral mix Close-up of Mixed Natural resin-bound aggregate — a balanced blend of cream, tan and grey rounded stone with occasional rust and brown flecks.
Mixed Natural Balanced cream, tan & grey — a true all-rounder

A versatile, well-balanced neutral that sits comfortably with almost any home. Warm and cool tones together mean it rarely clashes — our safe, flexible default.

Best suited toAlmost anything — driveways, patios, paths and pool surrounds — and homes where you want a forgiving, timeless blend that suits future changes too.

A starting point

Pairing a blend to your home

There's no single "right" answer — but a few simple pairings get most homeowners close before we even bring the samples out. Match the temperature of the stone to the materials you already have, then let the light and the use guide the final call.

If your home leans cool or contemporary

Grey render, charcoal cladding, black window frames, rendered or modern-brick frontages and coastal palettes sit beautifully with cooler stone.

  • Charcoal GraniteBold and architectural — frames lighter render and brick, and hides everyday marks.
  • Silver GreyClean, neutral and cooler underfoot — a strong choice near water and pools.
  • Mixed NaturalA forgiving all-rounder that bridges cool and warm without clashing.

If your home leans warm or traditional

Heritage and red brick, sandstone, timber, rendered period homes and garden-led frontages come alive against warmer stone.

  • SandstoneSoft, classic and inviting — flatters render, heritage brick and courtyards.
  • Golden QuartzDeeper gold with real presence — striking in afternoon sun on a driveway.
  • AutumnThe warmest in the range — earthy reds that stand out against green planting.
How to choose

Choosing the right blend for your home

A screen can only get you so far. Stone is a natural material, and the way a blend looks depends on the light, the surrounding finishes and the size of the area. Here's how we help you choose with confidence — and why we'd never ask you to commit from a photo alone.

We bring real samples to you

When we come out for your free site assessment, we bring physical sample boards of the blends you're considering — so you can hold the stone, lay it against your brick, render or paving, and see it in your own light before you decide.

  • See the actual aggregate, not a render — texture, sheen and true colour.
  • Hold it against your home's brick, render, pavers and planting.
  • Check it in both sun and shade, where it'll actually live.
  • Talk through how each blend suits the use — driveway, patio or pool.

Three things we weigh up

What actually decides the right blend

Light & aspect

A blend reads warmer and brighter in full sun, and cooler and deeper in shade. North-facing driveways and shaded courtyards can look like different colours — so we always check the spot where the surface will actually sit.

Your home's materials

The best blend works with your brick, render, roof and joinery — not against them. Cool greys suit modern and coastal palettes; warm honeys and ambers flatter brick and heritage homes; neutrals go almost anywhere.

How it'll be used

Dark blends look striking but absorb more heat — fine for a driveway, less ideal for a barefoot pool surround, where lighter blends stay cooler. Busy areas also hide marks better in mid-tone and darker mixes.

Why we don't sell from a photo

The same surface reads differently in sun and shade

These are two indicative renders of resin-bound driveways on modern homes — one in warm low evening light, one in bright midday sun. They're a useful illustration of how much the light changes the read of a blend. It's exactly why we bring the real stone to you rather than asking you to choose from a screen.

Cool, low evening light A darker blend deepens and reads almost black, picking up warmth only from nearby light. Indicative render — not a real Terralume job

Bright midday sun A warm blend lifts and brightens, with the individual stones and flecks clearly visible. Indicative render — not a real Terralume job

The right blend isn't the one that looks best on a screen — it's the one that still looks right at your front door, in your light.

Good to know

Honest answers on colour

The questions homeowners ask us most when they're narrowing down a blend.

Will my finished surface look exactly like the render?

It'll be close in character, but natural stone always carries batch-to-batch variation, and the photos here are indicative renders rather than photos of a finished job. That's the honest reason we bring physical samples to your quote — so what you approve is the actual aggregate, seen in your own light.

Why does the same blend look different in your photos and on site?

Light. Time of day, sun versus shade, wet versus dry, and the finishes around it all change how a stone reads. A blend that looks warm in midday sun can look noticeably cooler and deeper in a shaded courtyard. We always assess the actual spot before you commit.

Will the colour fade over time?

We specify a two-part aliphatic polyurethane resin, chosen because it's UV- and colour-stable — unlike cheaper aromatic resins, which yellow outdoors. The stone itself is naturally coloured aggregate, not a paint or dye, so the colour comes from the rock. With normal care, a quality resin-bound surface holds its look well; we cover this in your handover guidance.

Can I mix blends or get a custom colour?

Often, yes — many projects use one blend for a clean, continuous look, but borders, transitions and bespoke mixes are possible depending on aggregate availability. Tell us what you're picturing at your quote and we'll talk through what's realistic, and confirm against what we can actually source.

Which blend hides marks and dirt best?

Mid-tone and darker mixes — like Charcoal Granite, Autumn and Mixed Natural — tend to disguise everyday marks more forgivingly than very light blends. That said, all resin-bound surfaces are low-maintenance and easy to sweep and hose; we'll factor in how the area is used when we recommend a blend.

Which blends stay cooler for bare feet around a pool?

Lighter stone reflects more heat, so blends like Silver Grey, Sandstone and Mixed Natural stay more comfortable underfoot in summer sun than a dark near-black such as Charcoal Granite. For pool surrounds and barefoot entertaining areas we generally steer towards the lighter end of the range, and we'll talk through the trade-offs against the look you're after.

Does the same blend cost more or less than another?

Pricing is driven far more by the area, the preparation and the base than by which blend you pick. Some aggregates do carry a small supply difference depending on what's available, but for most jobs the blend you love and the blend that's most economical are close enough that we'd never push you off the look you want. Your written quote sets out the price clearly, with the blend and depth confirmed.
