Who we are

Seamless stone, built to last

One craft. Done properly.

Terralume Surfaces exists because resin-bound stone is too good to be done badly. Too often it's laid by crews who treat it as a side line — the wrong depth, the wrong resin, corners cut on the base. The surface looks great for a season, then loosens, fades or fails, and the homeowner is left chasing a warranty that was never written down.

We took the opposite path. We focus solely on resin-bound systems — rounded, kiln-dried aggregate trowelled on site and bound flush through a clear, two-part aliphatic (UV-stable) polyurethane. The result is a joint-free, permeable-capable surface that stays smooth underfoot and ages well in our temperate maritime climate of cool, wet winters and warm, dry summers — exactly the conditions a cheaper resin would chalk and yellow under.

We're plain-spoken about it. We make claims we can stand behind, quote real specifications and real warranties, and never oversell. If resin-bound isn't the right answer for your project — a heavily trafficked commercial yard, say, or a site we can't drain properly — we'll tell you that too, and point you somewhere honest.

Seamless stone. Built to last. That's the whole brief, and we hold ourselves to it on every square metre.

Resin-bound stone is too good to be done badly. So it's the only thing we do.
— The Terralume approach

What you can expect

  • A single specialist trade — resin-bound stone is all we do.
  • Our own trained crews on every job; labour is never subbed out.
  • Resin-bound (aggregate mixed through the resin and laid flush), not resin-bonded scatter-coat.
  • Specifications and warranties put in writing before any work starts.

What we won't do

  • Treat surfacing as a side line squeezed between other trades.
  • Hand your job to a sub-contractor you've never met.
  • Promise "100% permeable" or "no puddles, ever" — drainage depends on the base and your site.
  • Quote a number on the phone, then change it once we're on site.
How we work

From first call to finished surface

A clear, predictable process — so you always know what happens next, what it will cost, and when you can use your new surface.

Terralume process timeline: free site visit and fixed written quote, base assessment and preparation, on-site mixing and trowelling of resin-bound stone, cure and staged return to use, then handover with guarantee and aftercare.
Cure times are a guide at ~20 °C and lengthen in cold or winter weather. Foot traffic is typically possible in hours and light vehicles within a day or two, but "open to traffic" is not the same as fully cured (around 7 days). We confirm the timeline for your job in writing.

Why resin-bound, specifically

Bound stone is the harder system to lay well — and the better surface when it is. The aggregate is mixed through the resin and trowelled flush, so it reads as one continuous, joint-free finish with no loose stones to scatter or migrate.

Laid over a suitable open-graded base, it's permeable and WSUD-friendly (Water Sensitive Urban Design, per Melbourne Water guidance) — rain can pass through rather than sheet off. It can also be laid over sound existing concrete or asphalt where permeability isn't required.

What "trained crews" actually means

Resin-bound is a timing-and-technique trade: the right resin dosage (around 7% by weight), the right depth for the load, a clean trowel finish before the resin starts to cure, and a base that's been prepared to take it. Get any one of those wrong and the surface tells on you within a season.

Those are our own people, trained on the system we install — not casual labour learning on your driveway, and never a sub-contractor you've never met. The crew who quotes your job is the crew who lays it, and the same name stands behind the guarantee.

The build, in figures

Honest specifications, not slogans

These are the numbers we design and quote to. We confirm the exact spec for your site, use and chosen blend in writing, and verify it against the product's technical data sheet (TDS/SDS) before a single trowel touches the ground.

An honest word on trust

Why a new business can still be the safe choice

We're new, and we won't pretend otherwise — there are no fabricated reviews or project counts here. What protects you isn't our age; it's what we put in writing and the consumer laws that sit behind every domestic job in Victoria.

A written 5-year guarantee

Our workmanship is backed by a 5-year written guarantee — in plain language, handed to you, not a marketing slogan. You'll know exactly what's covered and what's expected (like letting a new surface cure before heavy use) before you sign anything.

Fixed, written quotes

After a free site visit we quote a fixed price in writing, with the scope, the build-up and the specification set out clearly. No verbal estimates that drift upward, and no surprises once the crew arrives.

Installed to spec

We install to a written specification — aggregate size, resin dosage and finished depth matched to the use, and verified against the product's technical data sheet on every job. The figures we quote are the figures we build to.

Victorian consumer protections

Domestic building work in Victoria carries legal protections that apply no matter how long a business has traded. Depending on the contract value, residential work falls under the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 (Vic), alongside the Building Act, the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) and Consumer Affairs Victoria. Disputes can be heard through the DBDRV service or VCAT.

Framework noted for your awareness — not a claim of endorsement, accreditation or affiliation.

Above the relevant domestic-building threshold, residential work in Victoria may require building-practitioner registration and domestic building insurance. We confirm the correct contractual and registration position for your specific job before work begins. Indicative specifications are verified against the product TDS/SDS on every install.

The Terralume standard

Five promises we put in writing

No marketing fluff — just the things we commit to on every job, before you sign anything. If we ever fall short of one, we'd rather you held us to it.

01

We quote it, then we build it

The aggregate size, resin type, finished depth and drainage approach we write into your quote are exactly what we install — checked against the product TDS, not adjusted quietly on the day.

02

Our crew, never subbed out

Your job is laid by our own trained installers. The people who assess and quote the work are the people who trowel it — no anonymous sub-contractor handed the keys to your driveway.

03

A base done right, or not at all

Most resin-bound failures start underneath. We assess and prepare the base properly — and if a site genuinely can't be made sound, we'll say so rather than lay over a problem.

04

Honest about what stone can do

We explain realistic drainage, cure times and maintenance up front — including the bits that aren't glamorous — so you choose with the full picture, not a sales pitch.

05

A guarantee you can read

Five years of written workmanship cover, in plain language, with the conditions stated clearly — handed to you on completion, not buried in fine print.

Good questions to ask

Before you choose an installer

The questions worth asking any resin-bound contractor — and our honest answers. If another quote can't answer these the same way, it's worth a second look.

Are you really a specialist, or a side line?

Resin-bound stone is the only surfacing we do. We're not a paving, concreting or landscaping business adding it to a price list — which means the right tools, the right resin and a crew that installs the system day in, day out, rather than learning on your job.

Is this resin-bound or resin-bonded?

Bound. The aggregate is mixed through the resin and trowelled flush, so it reads as one smooth, joint-free surface with no loose stones to scatter or migrate. Resin-bonded is a scatter-coat of stone glued onto a surface — different finish, different durability. We only install resin-bound, and we'll always tell you which you're being quoted.

Will it really be permeable, with no puddles?

It can be permeable — but only over a suitable open-graded (WSUD) base. The surface drains as well as the ground beneath it allows, so we won't promise "100% permeable" or "no puddles, ever." We assess your base, sub-grade and falls, then tell you honestly what drainage your site can achieve. Over existing concrete or asphalt it can still be laid where permeability isn't required.

How soon can I walk on it and park on it?

As a guide at around 20 °C: foot traffic in roughly 6–8 hours, light vehicles in about 24–72 hours, and full cure at around 7 days. Cold or winter weather lengthens all of those. "Open to traffic" isn't the same as "fully cured" — we set out the real timeline for your job in writing.

You're a new business — why should I trust you?

We won't pretend otherwise, and you won't find fabricated reviews or project counts here. What protects you is concrete: a fixed written quote, a written specification verified to the product TDS, a 5-year written workmanship guarantee, and the Victorian consumer protections that apply to domestic building work regardless of how long a business has traded. Honest reviews from real Geelong jobs are coming as we complete them.

What does it cost, and how do you quote?

Price depends on area, the base condition, access and your chosen blend, so we don't quote a number over the phone and change it later. We visit, assess the site, and give you a fixed written quote with the scope, build-up and specification set out clearly — no obligation.
